Meet Lisa
Family
Born to parents who valued Christian service and education Lisa and her brother were taught at an early age to trust God and serve others. Lisa was born in Dublin, GA and attended St. Paul AME Church until her parents retired from teaching and moved to Atlanta. Upon moving to Atlanta the family joined Big Bethel AME Church, Atlanta, GA. Lisa is married to Mr. Bruce Whigham and she has one step-daughter, Mia.
Education
Lisa followed in the footsteps of her mother and attended and graduated from Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University), where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education. Upon graduating Lisa landed a job at Georgia Pacific Corporation. While working at the after school program at Big Bethel AME Church she decided to return to Clark Atlanta University to obtain a Master of Arts Degree in School Counseling.
Profession
Upon obtaining a Master's Degree in School Counseling, Lisa's higher education enabled her become a Professional School Counselor in Fulton County School, Atlanta, GA, at the elementary and middle school levels for 23 years. Lisa currently works as an Elementary Professional School Counselor for Clayton County School, Morrow, GA, where she serves approximately 600, PK-5 students. She is a member of the Georgia School Counselors Association and the American School Counselors Association.
Community Outreach
Lisa serves on the Board of Directors
for the Empowerment Resource Center, a non-profit organization that provides
HIV/AIDS education and testing to the community. She is also a member of
the Richard Allen Outreach Center Board of Directors of Big Bethel AME Church,
which is the organization that overseas all outreach ministries of the church.
Lisa is an active member of the following organizations: the Atlanta Alumnae
Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Church Women United, the National
Council of Negro Women, and Mom's Demand Action. Lisa's motto is "The
best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

Service
Lisa became a member of the Women's Missionary Society within a year of joining Big Bethel AME Church, Atlanta, GA in 1987 to continue her Christian service. She has served on the local level as secretary, corresponding secretary, 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and currently is the President of the Laura L. Turner Women's Missionary Society. The Atlanta North GA Conference elected her for four years as 3rd Vice President, and the Sixth Episcopal District elected her for seven years as 3rd Vice President and for two years as 1st Vice President. After serving in these elected offices, which have prepared her to move forward, the Sixth Episcopal District, State of Georgia, proudly presents her as an aspirant to become the Connectional 1st Vice President in July 2019.
